How to use: Version I

Give your drink a quick stir. Using a straw or your finger, place a drop of your drink on one of the yellow test fields on your test card. In less than 10 seconds you’ll have a clear result: the test field has either stayed yellow or turned purple.

How to use: Version II

Give your drink a quick stir. Using a straw or your finger, place a drop of your drink on one of the yellow test fields on your test card. In less than 10 seconds you’ll have a clear result: the test field has either stayed yellow or turned green/blue.

What to do if the test is positive (V1: purple) (V2: green/blue)?

If the test field has turned (V1: purple) (V2: green/blue), someone has spiked your drink with liquid ecstasy (GHB or GBL). Do not drink any more of it under any circumstances. Alert security staff immediately and call the police. Keep both your drink and the test card as evidence and hand them over to the investigators. Take a deep breath. You’ve had a lucky escape.

One important thing to remember: once a test card has shown a positive result, do not use it again, no matter how many unused test fields are left on it. Switch to a new Night Saver card, because the liquid ecstasy may have contaminated the other test fields.

Water as a safety feature

To make sure the test fields are working, they contain a built-in water reaction feature:

If a test field comes into contact with plain water, it may change colour slightly after about 30 seconds.

This deliberate reaction serves only as a visual check that the test field is active. It does not mean that there are spiking substances in the water.

Important: The colour reaction to water is clearly different from the reaction to spiking substances (GHB/GBL). Only on contact with these substances does the test field show a clear, rapid and intense colour change from yellow to (V1: purple) (V2: green/blue).

This built-in self-test feature is an additional safety measure that lets you check the product is ready to use.

GHB and GBL

With our Night Saver test cards you can currently test drinks for the drugs GHB and GBL. Both are also known as liquid ecstasy. They are by far the most commonly used substances in drink spiking attacks because they produce the effect in the victim that perpetrators are after. Both have a sedating effect, cause memory gaps and can only be detected in the body for a maximum of 12 hours, even with laboratory tests. There are, however, other types of drugs that can be used to spike drinks. Night Saver tests cannot yet detect these. We are researching intensively to develop our tests further so we can offer even more protection in future. If you are ever really unsure whether someone might have put something in your drink, it’s better to leave it when in doubt.

Minimum amount

Our test cards detect GHB and GBL even in small amounts. However, if only micro-doses of GHB or GBL have been added to your drink, our test cards cannot detect them.

Substances

Our test cards are made using a range of different chemicals. Some of these are toxic and harmful to living beings. Simply touching the cards is completely harmless, but do not lick the test cards and keep them away from children and pets.

Not a medical product

Night Saver test cards are not medical products. They do not replace medical examinations, laboratory tests or your own common sense. They serve only as an additional, recommended preventive safety measure, one building block in an overall safety system.

Shelf life

Every pack of our test cards shows a best-before date. Make sure you don’t use test cards after they have expired.

Exceptions

The test does work with red wine and red fruit juices, but the drink has to be smeared across the test field to remove the excess liquid and sediment. We show how in this video: Red wine
